Surprising Products Containing Gluten To Eliminate for a Gluten-Free Lifestyle
If gluten is everywhere (wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt) how would someone go completely gluten-free?
First, I teach my GI and CD patients how to read labels and know what hidden ingredients could actually contain gluten.
Besides obvious gluten-filled foods like bread, pasta, baked goods, pizza crust, and crackers, there are surprising products that contain gluten that your body is absorbing.
Some of the products that could contain gluten, and therefore should be eliminated for a truly gluten-free lifestyle include:
- Paper Towels and Paper Products
- Chewing Gum
- Soy Sauce
- Salad Dressing
- Deli Meat
- Instant Coffee
- Canned Soups and Sauces
- Caramel Coloring
You can do small things like buying your gluten free paper towels from Costco in order to live truly gluten-free.
Besides reading labels, you can use technology to help identify gluten in store-bought foods. For instance, there’s an instrument called the Nima. It’s a handy gadget that can identify if there’s gluten in food in just two minutes.
